Running for District 1 is Betsy Coffia, a progressive leader and community organizer who formerly ran for state house. Betsy lives in the City of Traverse City with her husband. “I’ve talked to people in every corner of Grand Traverse County.  They’ve been clear that they expect more of their leaders. We offer a vision for a brighter future, and now is the time for change right here at home,” said Betsy.

Bryce Hundley

Bryce Hundley, an accountant, fifteen-year resident of Traverse City, husband, and father of three, is the Democratic candidate for District 2. Bryce and his family live in the City of Traverse City. “Our county needs to finally face its obligations and challenges. I’m willing to make critical decisions and support the people who live and work here,” said Bryce.

Mike Powers

The candidate for District 3 is Mike Powers, an energy consultant and project manager with Keen Technical Solutions. Mike and his wife live in Garfield Township. “As a contractor, I see opportunities where we can turn liabilities into assets. We can reduce energy use and address deferred maintenance by making strategic investments and support.  Our county should be thriving, not drowning - I believe we can do better,” said Mike.

Steve Horne

Steve Horne is running for the District 4 seat. Steve and his wife live in Green Lake Township. Steve spent his career with Ford Motor and implementing strategic vision at national universities before relocating to Grand Traverse County.  “I’ve spent my life developing consensus and implementing plans to tackle serious problems -- I see that as a valuable skill set to bring to the Commission,” said Steve. "Our county is one of the fastest growing in the state, but our roads need work, our pension plan is seriously underfunded and we have had a stream of County employees leaving.  We can do better. Let's get to work and fix this."

Running for District 5 is Dr. Linda Pepper, a veterinarian/biology teacher/principal who served in the Peace Corps after retirement and who now lives in Grawn. “As a problem solver, I waste no time blaming people. I gather ideas and data. I am a team player who works with the group to develop alternatives and make thoughtful decisions," said Linda. "I get things done while respecting different viewpoints. These are skills that I believe will help our county provide equally and fairly for all our citizens.”

The candidate seeking the District 6 seat is Makenzie ("Kenzie") Jeurink, a mother of three foster children and avid hunter and fisherwoman.  Kenzie, her husband and their three foster children live in Whitewater Township. “I care for people in need. Good governance means improving everyone’s quality of life, not just a select few. I bring a fresh perspective and I will be a voice for the forgotten people in our County,” said Kenzie.

Dr. Thomas Wertz is the candidate for District 7.  Tom is a 30-year emergency room doctor with a record of public service, including with the Grand Traverse Conservation District.  Tom lives in East Bay Township.  “We need leaders who listen, learn, and then make hard decisions. I know how to do that,” said Tom.
