Dr Bob Lorinser
Michigan 1st Congressional District Primary

I'm Dr. Bob Lorinser, a diplomat, social worker, educator, Medicare/Medicaid Medical Director and currently still serving as a public health leader and family physician. My wife Peggy and I have called Northern Michigan and the UP home for 36 years.

My leadership is anchored in honesty, empathy, unity, and a passion for serving all citizens. I believe in the courage it takes to devise effective solutions to pressing issues.

My agenda prioritizes hardworking families and small businesses, promoting labor reform and ensuring livable wages. Expanding public education, housing, and childcare are also crucial to economic prosperity.

I am dedicated to promoting energy independence, while protecting the environment and addressing climate change. I will advocate for diplomacy to resolve international problems.

I strongly support protecting Social Security, expanding Medicare for all, and restoring Roe nationwide. A patient's room is far too small for a woman, her doctor, and the entire US government.

Healthcare is a basic human right. As the US spends 30% of its budget on healthcare, I offer immediate expertise as the sole Democratic family doctor in the House or Senate pushing Medicare for All.

It would be my greatest honor to bring our fight to Congress.

Callie Barr
Michigan 1st Congressional District Primary

Callie is a 5th-generation Michigander running for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District. Callie is a proud graduate of Cheboygan High School where she met her husband, Mat. After September 11, Mat enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq. Callie attended Central Michigan University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Callie moved with her husband five times in 15 years, raising two girls and eventually caregiving for Mat after he suffered combat injuries, including post-traumatic stress and a traumatic brain injury.

Frustrated by the lack of support for active military members and returning veterans, Callie became involved in advocating for the military and their families with Blue Star Families and the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. Callie then went on to receive a law degree, graduating with honors from the University of Michigan Law School so she could better advocate for policy changes at the federal level. Callie is running for office because MI-01 deserves a representative that is from Michigan and for Michigan.

Betsy Coffia
Michigan House District 103

I’m running for reelection as your State Representative for the 103rd District because I believe when we work together, we can create a northern Michigan community where every single person is able to enjoy life with dignity and opportunity.

TOGETHER we made history in November 2022.

You helped me become the First Dem elected to the State House from GT County in living memory and the only candidate out of 110 House seats to unseat an incumbent!

TOGETHER we made so much possible and we are delivering!

Some of our wins to date: We became the first state in nearly 60 years to repeal the Right-To-Work union busting law. We scrapped Rick Snyder’s unfair retirement tax and quintupled the working families tax credit to put more money back in MIchigan seniors and families pockets. We invested in students and public educators with an historic and transformational school aid fund budget, funded school safety, rural transportation, and made sure no child would go hungry at school.

We in Northern MI know what to do - we work hard, we lean in, we invest in the future and the progress we want and we make it happen. I can’t wait to see the progress we make TOGETHER.

Trenton Lee
GT County Commission, District 5

Trenton, born and raised in Traverse City, brings a unique blend of local roots and diverse experiences to his community. He was raised in a working-class family which instilled in him strong values of love, compassion, and dedication. This enabled him to pursue his passion for social justice and education at the University of Michigan, earning a BA in Sociology and Women’s Studies, and later at the University of Westminster in London, England, where he earned a master's degree in critical media theory and worked as a lecturer at the College of Design, Creative, and Digital Industries.

Returning home, Trenton witnessed the impact of the pandemic and political division on mental health, especially for young people, during his time as a teacher at Interlochen Arts Academy. This firsthand experience, and a pandemic-induced career reroute, led Trenton to his current role at North Country Community Mental Health, where he works towards improved and inclusive mental health services. Now, as a candidate for GT County Commissioner, Trenton is committed to uniting the community and finding innovative solutions to local challenges. With his background in education, activism, and dedication to his hometown, he aims to lead with transparency, empathy, and collaboration.

TJ Andrews
GT County Commission, District 7

I'm is running for re-election to the represent District 7 on the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners. District 7 includes the Old Mission Peninsula and the northeastern part of Traverse City, including the neighborhoods around the academic campuses (Eastern Elementary, Central High School (go, Trojans!), and NMC), surrounding the Civic Center, Bryant Park, Jupiter Park, and F&M Park.

After serving most of a term already, I understand the depth of opportunity to improve how the county provides services to our community. We have an obligation to address the critical needs in our community, which include housing and related homelessness, childcare to support working families, protecting water quality, reducing our fossil footprints individually and collectively, and ensuring resilience in a changing climate. I have demonstrated reasonableness, pragmatism, and bipartisan effectiveness, and I will continue to bring curiosity to the commission. Thank you for your support and sharing our vision for a more responsive and effective county commission.
