Traverse City to Join National "No Kings 3" Day of Action with March for Democracy on March 28

Community groups plan peaceful demonstration featuring music, food drive, and call for democratic accountability

Traverse Indivisible and Leelanau Indivisible will host a march and demonstration on Saturday, March 28 from 1:00-3:00 PM as part of the national No Kings 3 day of action, a coordinated effort organized by the No Kings Coalition, Indivisible Project, and MoveOn.

The event will gather at F&M Park (716 E State St, Traverse City) before marching through downtown Traverse City. Participants are encouraged to bring signs, noisemakers, and their voices for what organizers describe as a "joyful but loud" demonstration in defense of democratic principles.

"Democracy is under assault, and silence is not an option," said Leif Kolt, Communications Team Lead for Traverse Indivisible. "We're turning up the volume to send a clear message: In America, we have no kings."

Music, Community Support, and Peaceful Resistance

The march will feature guided singing from the Northern Michigan Justice Singers coalition and will proceed rain, snow, or shine. In keeping with Traverse Indivisible's tradition of combining activism with community service, attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food donations to support neighbors in need across Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties (drop off at F&M Park.)

"While greedy billionaires get tax breaks and corrupt politicians bail out tech companies, working families are struggling to put food on the table," Kolt said. "Our food drive is a direct response to an administration that strips services from those who need them most. We take care of each other when those in power won't."

Organizers emphasized their commitment to nonviolent action and peaceful resistance, expecting all participants to seek de-escalation and act lawfully.

National Context

The No Kings 3 day of action comes amid growing concerns about executive overreach, immigration enforcement tactics, and an unauthorized war with Iran. Organizers nationwide are mobilizing communities to demonstrate that "America does not belong to strongmen, greedy billionaires, or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us, the people."
