Join State Rep. Betsy Coffia to collect signatures to get Money Out of Politics

One thing that we can do RIGHT NOW is get MOP Up Michigan, the citizen-led ballot initiative, on the ballot in November.

MOP Up Michigan proposes to ban corporate monopolies and corporations with big state and local government contracts from making political donations. That means 800 pound gorillas in Michigan politics like DTE and Consumers, and health insurance companies like Blue Cross, would no longer be able to make political contributions in Michigan. 

But we have to do the work to get it on the ballot first! That’s where you come in.

I cannot express how game-changing this could be. How much I have witnessed these big corporate donors determine the scope and language of our state’s legislation, what is allowed a committee hearing, a vote, and what is quietly killed behind the scenes, under Democratic and Republican control alike. 

That’s why I am taking on the problem of big money in politics as my TOP focus in my reelection campaign. Northern Michigan knows our way around effective signature gathering; we’ve punched above our weight class for years on this front and I want to do my part to bring our campaign volunteer’s significant muscle to bear for this crucial issue.

It’s time sensitive though - MOP Up Michigan only has weeks remaining to collect thousands more signatures. 

So, my dear neighbors, I am personally asking you to do your bit to get big money out of our politics in Michigan. Please join us this Saturday and collect signatures for MOP Up Michigan and take the necessary step to get rid of some of the most corrosive money in our state politics. Northern Michigan SHOWS UP for real reform and for our neighbors in need, and this is an opportunity to make a real difference.
