About the event

If ever there was a moment to "be the change you want to see in the world," it's NOW. If you are thinking of stepping up to lead in our community as an organizer or elected official (or if are currently one already and want to build on the skills and resources you already possess) - whether that's becoming a candidate for the school board, the library, township/city/county commissioner positions, the Human Rights Commission, or something along these lines and you are looking for grounded ways to lead - the Grand Traverse Dems have you covered! Local community organizers, somatic coaches and siblings, Lucy Waechter Webb and Tess Waechter Smith will lead a cohort through a one-day workshop called Embodied Leadership for Electoral Organizing.

From Lucy & Tess:

Are you considering running for public office?

Do you feel like you have something to offer your community? Or want to make change and have impact in your community?

Do you feel ready to offer something but feel like you don’t have the skills you need to use your voice and your creativity, to step into your power?

There is a lot of pressure when one takes public office - pressure from constituents, pressure of being a public figure, pressure to fundraise, pressure from peers, elected officials, pressure to fulfill on your promises and make change in your community. It is a big role to take on and it is understandable that we might move out of reactivity, to lose focus on or shrink away from our vision, struggle to move with clear action, we might collapse under the pressure or try to push our agenda through without collaboration.

Somatics is a path of practice that supports us to reconnect to our own power and take skillful action. It deepens our awareness of our own reactive patterns and helps us learn how to keep moving toward what we care about even when we’re under pressure. We practice connecting with our own embodied agency and power because we have the potential to influence the conditions of our lives and this world.

Often our power and agency is sourced from what we love, what we care about, what we are a fight for and what we long for in the world. These times are calling for more of us to show up with courage and clarity about what we love.

Join us to feel the power of embodied leadership in you.  This workshop is for both beginners to embodiment experience and for those who want to deepen in their somatic practice. All levels of somatics welcome.
