Tuesday’s At Bergman’s, March 14, 2017
It was 17 degrees outside Republican Representative, Jack Bergman’s office this morning, but that did not deter Maggie Zinger from Traverse City. She bundled up in warm clothing, and ventured out to join the ‘Tuesday’s At Bergman’s’ group, carrying a colorful, homemade sign that read: Healthcare for All!!! Not Corporate Welfare and a Wall!! “I’m here for one, to ask for a Town Hall from my representative who has not yet had a face-to-face talk with his constituents, which we are. Mostly, I’m here today to talk about how this [Republican] administration lied about how healthcare was going to work. In the form it is in now, older people would be paying the most for their insurance. Not everyone is wealthy in their older years. Most people lose wealth as they age. What’s going to happen to them when they get to the age where they cannot afford their insurance? I believe we were told everyone was going to be covered and that is not what is happening.”
Once again, constituents were forced to line up single file to reach a glass barrier through which they ed to an aide on the other side. They passed postcards and letters under the glass while expressing their fears about losing their ACA healthcare, asking for the hundredth time for their Republican representative to meet them in person to discuss their concerns. All requests have been denied or ignored while Bergman bleats back in canned response letters that tow the party line, demonstrating a shallow understanding, and outright contempt for how the policies he touts, such as repealing and replacing the ACA, and defunding the EPA, would affect the people he claims to represent.
